Description
The person hired as the Tactile Exhibit Developer will be tasked with developing traveling exhibitions to serve blind and disabled museum visitors. A strong understanding of accessible and inclusive design is highly desired. This individual manages and participates in all facets of tactile exhibition creation, including curation, concept development, prototyping, design, and installation. They are responsible for the research, development, interpretation, and writing of permanent and temporary tactile exhibitions and interactives. We seek to exponentially increase content and require someone capable of producing a high volume of exhibitions.
Requirements
Responsibilities include:
- Develop original content for temporary and permanent exhibitions and interactives from the Getty Images collection of historical and contemporary images.
- Develop original content for temporary and permanent exhibitions and interactives from our third-party partners.
- Manage and participate in exhibition concept development for exhibitions & interactives.
- Participate as the primary exhibition content developer for interactives.
- Conduct primary topic research and develop content resource documentation for developed tactile displays.
- Research and advise on developing exhibition signage, visitor handouts, and other exhibition interpretation materials.
- Research, develop, and prototype exhibitions and interactives.
- Other projects as assigned by the Senior Creative Officer and Co-founder.
- Understanding and adherence to safety protocols.
- Deliver consistent, high-quality designs by expected deadlines.
- Working in multiple media formats, including print, digital, and video.
- Interact with the blind and disabled to understand their needs and the life-changing opportunity tactile design can bring to their lives.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experienced and well versed in the principles of design.
- Ability to provide and follow art direction.
- Experience in interactive exhibition development and prototyping.
- Proven ability to take an idea from concept through production to installation.
- Proven ability to communicate complex ideas with a wide range of audiences.
- Basic understanding of computer programs related to exhibition design, such as
Sketchup and AutoCAD
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
- A demonstrated commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
- Knowledge of kinesthetic learning.
- Be able to work on projects independently, as well as the ability to work as part of a team on larger design projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, equivalent military or civilian experience.
- Experience working with museums, science centers, exhibition designers, educational institutions, government agencies, vocational rehabilitation organizations, and organizations that support the blind and disabled.
- Understanding of policies, processes, and procedures relating to accessibility and inclusion.
